WHAT IS A CHICANO AND WHY WE SHOULD HAVE A VOICE AT POLITICAL ROUNDTABLES FOR 2012 AND BEYOND

A Chicano is a Mexican-American who generally was pressured by the Anglo-run school system and most other official governmental entities, to abandon Spanish as a language, even though many Chicanos barely spoke it and also pressured to generally assimilate into the Anglo culture. It worked to a large degree and those who accepted complete assimilation also accepted being called Hispanic or Latino, instead of Chicano, which had connotations and connections to Civil Rights movements back in the day and to those who refused to completely assimilate.

NATION OF AZTLAN

Aztlan is a term used to describe the area of the United States that was inhabited centuries ago by Indian Tribes alleged to have crossed the Bering Strait when that was navigable on foot. These Indians were of Asian descent, crossed the Bering Strait and migrated southward. Aztlan would have been located in the Southwest United States, including but not limited to California, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Colorado. Eventually these tribes, being somewhat Nomadic, went farther south and settled in Mexico in parts dominated by the Toltecs, Aztecs and Mayans.

WHY NO AMBER ALERT FOR BREEANN RODRIGUEZ?

The FBI has not issued an Amber Alert for 3 year-old Breeann Rodriguez, who went missing on Saturday, August 6, 2011 while riding her bike near her home in Senath, Missouri. They have released two reasons as to why they have not issued an Amber Alert in this missing child case: The first reason being that the FBI does not have enough evidence to prove that she was kidnapped and secondly that there is no suspect description, even though a suspicious white vehicle was seen in the vicinity at the time of the disappearance.

GAMBLING ZONE ON THE MEXICAN BORDER (preview August issue CCM)

With the debt-ceiling debate apparently at an end, save the House of “Lack of Representatives” acting to block the passage of the announced “deal”, our great Nation needs to do what it has done since it was created, that is come up with something big for ourselves that gets us back into a “boom”.   Hopefully it is not like the packaged mortgage contracts of the Bush era that were sold to investors worldwide, gave us a boom but then imploded and shook our economy to its’ core and was felt negatively throughout the world as well. There are no doubt big ideas being worked on as we write and re

"So What? by Anonymous on 05.05.2011. You can always go back to mexico if you don't like it. Because the only way to get rid of unwanted invaders is to turn America into a worse place to live then the countries you came from. After you leave and no longer have electoral power, build the walls and do an abrupt U turn and America is back to the way it should of been."

Overview of Chicano, Mexican Relations

Not long ago Spanish was illegal on school grounds in many States including Texas. For many Chicanos this was not a big deal because English was our first language and in most cases our Spanish left much to be desired. But for most Chicanos mixing a word of Spanish here and there in an otherwise English sentence, was and is very common. In fact at the University of Texas’ Chicano Studies program, the literature book used in that section recognizes that the Chicano culture has its own language comprised of a mixture of English and Spanish.
