Whichever television station you rely on for your political news, at least we know that currently you can get a “conservative” version, Fox News, and a “liberal” version, MSNBC. We put those two terms in quotes because it is easily arguable that how both stations report the news is neither conservative or liberal. Regardless of your perspective, at least currently you can check out the other station to see what the “other side” is saying. One thing that both stations have in common is that they are both owned by corporate behemoths.
Logically, the more people of a Nation that vote, the closer that Nation gets to being a true democracy. The result of that vote would represent the voice of the majority of the people of that Nation. If the majority of people do not vote, perhaps because most people have to work harder and more hours just to make the same amount of money, which causes time to be a factor along with the lack of enthusiasm, then the Nation is being run by the few who do vote. Those few people who vote regularly are usually in the upper echelons of the economic ladder, and not only do they vote, but they u
A legal case entitled Citizens United made its way to the top of the legal “food” chain, nine "gods" in black robes sat in judgment, listened or at least heard arguments and then made their decision. Actually they had met with persons before the case ever got to them, persons whose only interest is in power, pure power and the riches that come with it. These persons told the "gods", that a case was coming their way that would have enormous effect upon their ability to rule the world. They described this case as one that would allow them to use their already vast wealth, to turn
When pondering your position on current issues, don’t just think in the moment, fast forward your thinking to take into account things that are happening that might influence how you feel about certain issues, so you don’t pick fights that aren’t worth fighting. A good example of that is on the issue of “Spanish Only” proposals by State Governments or private companies, and also on the related issue of immigration. Days before the issuance of this blog, the worst nightmare of White Supremacists came true, there were more colored, including Latino, babies born in the United States than Ang
When I first considered voting for him, I thought “but will he make the right-wing squirm? Yes”. A brother in the White House? Oh yeah there was a definite squirm factor, maybe even more than another Clinton in the White House squirm factor. Then I thought, “oh shit, soul food on the White House menu, Motown playing throughout the ‘House’, picks in the bathroom and lotion everywhere. If I was thinking this, so was Dick Cheney, but whereas as I was giddy, he was throwing up and getting closer to that pumper giving up. Not that I wanted that, that would be too easy.
Villa’s short-story book, “I Voted For Him Because He’s Black”, spells out how it wasn’t a “brother” whose school system kicked him out for speaking, looking and acting Mexican, it wasn’t a “brother” whose police force provoked negative reactions and it wasn’t soul-food restaraunts that had signs that said “no dogs, no Mexicans.” It was in fact Mexicans, before there was an official Texas, that fought a War because Texans were using “brothers” as slaves. Yet there has been bad blood at times between the races.
Yvonne aka Spoiled Latina let's us in on the history of the Mexican/Chicano Easter tradition of cascarones and a few simple tips on how to make them:
When I was little, my family would all hang out and make cascarones which are confetti filled eggs, in celebration of Easter and the Easter hunts..of course before Easter my brothers and cousins would have already cracked some on each of our heads...lol
Now get your collectors’ edition of Chicano Channel Magazine every other month delivered directly to your home or business. Every issue so far has been a collectible in our opinion, however now each issue is labeled a “collectors’ edition” and we expect them to live up to that distinction as we have already received reports of issues “disappearing” from households. Other family members are suspected of sneaking them away.
