When I first considered voting for him, I thought “but will he make the right-wing squirm? Yes”. A brother in the White House? Oh yeah there was a definite squirm factor, maybe even more than another Clinton in the White House squirm factor. Then I thought, “oh shit, soul food on the White House menu, Motown playing throughout the ‘House’, picks in the bathroom and lotion everywhere. If I was thinking this, so was Dick Cheney, but whereas as I was giddy, he was throwing up and getting closer to that pumper giving up. Not that I wanted that, that would be too easy.
There is nothing more important to the U.S.A. than the education of its kids, nothing, except maybe national security. There is also nothing more important to those kids than getting educated, because it is a fact that the unemployment rate for those with degrees is half of those without and that the salaries of those with degrees is double of those without. Getting back on track getting our youth educated allows us to compete with other Countries who have overtaken the U.S. in the past few years, which is important to the U.S.
We wanted to study this after someone stated to us that demand had nothing to do with creating jobs, that instead we have to give rich people more incentives like tax breaks and subsidies with which they will arguably create things and thus create jobs. The problem with that argument is that rich people aren’t dumb and are not going to build large factories with many employees and other costs, if they are not sure that demand for that product already exists.
Tax breaks for the rich do not create jobs, or if they do, a drop in the bucket. Think about it, the rich person has already made it and is probably already fully invested in one or more companies. In their endeavors, whatever they may be, they have probably reached the “point of diminishing returns”, the economic principle that establishes the point at which further investment in something results in no further gain. In other words, having given the rich, lately called “job creators”, tax breaks, at some point probably did result in jobs being created. The American people in this case
There are many who have short picks about who Mitt Romney, whose coronation as the Presidential Nominee from day one hit a few bumps, but is all but done now, will pick as his running mate, however we think we know who it will be. We think it will be Marco Rubio, the Cuban/American Senator from Florida. During all the debates that the Republicans had this past fall, it was obvious they were going to take a hit on the Latino vote, what with one of the candidates saying we needed an electric fence on the border and all of them supporting Arizona’s and other States’ laws that would criminali
Villa’s short-story book, “I Voted For Him Because He’s Black”, spells out how it wasn’t a “brother” whose school system kicked him out for speaking, looking and acting Mexican, it wasn’t a “brother” whose police force provoked negative reactions and it wasn’t soul-food restaraunts that had signs that said “no dogs, no Mexicans.” It was in fact Mexicans, before there was an official Texas, that fought a War because Texans were using “brothers” as slaves. Yet there has been bad blood at times between the races.
Too often, and nobody can blame us, we get caught up in the daily game of life and pay little or no attention to events around the World. These events can sneak up on us though, like 9/11 did, and change our lives forever. So we have to keep an eye on foreign events, know as much as possible about it so that in case it affects the U.S., we are as prepared as we can be.
Yvonne aka Spoiled Latina let's us in on the history of the Mexican/Chicano Easter tradition of cascarones and a few simple tips on how to make them:
When I was little, my family would all hang out and make cascarones which are confetti filled eggs, in celebration of Easter and the Easter hunts..of course before Easter my brothers and cousins would have already cracked some on each of our heads...lol
You would think that lynchings were a thing of the past, but late February’s murder of Trayvon Martin and the amount of publicity it has generated, has shown you that in fact not only are they still occurring, but they now have received legal cover by the NRA-backed, “Stand Your Ground Law”. Who wouldn’t support a law with that name, standing your ground is in almost every Chicanos' DNA, but when it is used to pop a little brother for no other reason than because he is black, than it is simply a legal lynching law.
