AFGHANISTAN: FORGOTTEN WAR OVER INVASION OF NEW YORK?
The U.S. went to Afghanistan to attack Al Qaeda for attacking New York. The war started and for sure sent many terrorists running and dethroned the Taliban. Then W decided that Saddam had something to do with the invasion of New York, invaded Iraq, took down a statute of Saddam, then parachuted onto a Naval Carrier Ship and declared the now infamous “Mission Accomplished”. That statement haunted W like “read my lips, no new taxes” haunted his father.
Obama delivered on a campaign promise and for all intents and purposes got the USA out of Iraq, except for a much smaller number of “non-combat” heroes. The President then refocused on the hunt for Al Qaeda, increased troop levels based on his Generals’ recommendations and then had Osama Bin Laden, the World’s Most Wanted Criminal, executed and eliminated as a threat. Chris Mathews of MSNBC told Andrea Mitchell that the only fight there now is the Taliban and that no matter when we leave, now or in twenty-years, the Taliban will always reemerge when we leave unless the people there get rid of them. CCM agrees with the meaning of those words.
We think we should hurt the Taliban as much as possible and in the shortest amount of time as possible, especially for all the American deaths they are responsible for, including thirty just this weekend. Our Military should inflict as much pain on the Taliban as possible, get our allies there ready to take care of themselves without leaving them too many arms that will come back and haunt us later and begin the withdrawal that has been planned now for some time by the Obama Administration. We defer to Military specialists and the Commander In Chief, but it is difficult to see how a more prolonged presence there helps our national security and we hope that it is not “special interests” that keep us there.
